Blessed by the town of Kaharlyk

Hey guys, Byron here. Just wanted to spend a minute on the blog to share from my perspective.

So we're wrapping up our final night in Kaharlyk. We leave by train for Ternopil (Western Ukraine) tomorrow evening.

Our time here at Calvary Chapel Kaharlyk has been a huge blessing. Seeing their ministry that focuses on daily life and community transformation has been refreshing to see in Ukraine.

Pastor Wayne's vision for business and providing jobs for the locals seems to be going well. We saw his warehouse that produces biodiesel - working with McDonalds closely on this idea. They also used to grow mushrooms and are working their way back to that business as well.

Ministry in the church is encouraging as well. Tonight we helped with an event that they call "Oldies Night". We got to serve dinner and tea to about 15-20 elderly people from the community. Just getting to talk with these people blessed me so much and it seemed to really bless them as well (even though my Russian stinks, I got some good practice in).

Other ministries we have been able to see include sports ministry (cricket, since Wayne is Australian), prayer meetings, and interaction with guys at the drug rehab center in town here.

Calvary Kaharlyk is focused on how Jesus effects people's everyday lives and how Jesus can totally transform a community. Christianity isn't a ritual or religion that the Orthodox church has oppressed Ukraine's thinking with. But these people here seem to be stuck in that way of thinking. This is a culture that was used to being taken care of by the government (Soviet Union), and now that it is gone a lot of the people here in Kaharlyk seem stuck not knowing how Jesus can effect your daily life, giving hope.

The vision here is to show that Jesus brings forth life, transformation, hope, love. What a blessing to be a part of this over the last week.

Emily and I are still seeking the Lord's will in where He has us in Ukraine. Kaharlyk is a real possibility and we have become passionate about the work God is doing here. However, we still have two more weeks of seeking the Lord in Ukraine!

Please join us in prayer. We don't plan on making a definite decision of which town we will be moving to until we are back in the States. So pray for us that we are sensitive to the Lord's voice in all of this.

Pray for us tomorrow as we travel by train 8 hours west to Teronpil.

And finally, please pray for the town, church, and people of Kaharlyk.

С Богом (God Bless)

Byron
