As the new school year is underway here in Uganda, Emily and I have been blessed to be more a part of some of the students' lives at Calvary Chapel Entebbe Christian School. Last semester, our ministry focus didn't allow us to be at the school everyday, but now the Lord has allowed us to be regularly involved.
The Calvary school has slowly been growing and adding one grade a year. This year marks the first year they have a full primary school, from P1 (similar to America's 1st grade) to P7 (7th grade, around middle school age). It's an exciting time for us to be here, watching them add P7 for this new year.
Emily and I were asked if we could teach Bible for the new P7 class, and we gladly accepted. This week begins the third week of our new teaching schedule. We teach a 30 minute Bible class every morning of the week for these students.
Last semester, there wasn't as much structure to the Bible class at the school, as they had a number of different people coming in and teaching a Bible lesson or a devotion, and most were topical. This semester, the school is looking for a more structured Bible class that goes through the entire Bible.
If any of you know me, you know that this has been super exciting for me. I love studying the Bible and digging deep into God's Word. With this opportunity to teach a Bible class, I'm able to study and prepare to teach (and even learn myself) on a regular basis, plus it's such a blessing to teach these students the Word daily.
I'm also so blessed that God has given me Emily as a co-laborer. We have been sharing the teaching responsibilities, switching off teaching every other morning. Most of our ministry work, we are together, but we've never taken turn teaching together, so this has been a blessing to us as we work together to develop the curriculum that we are teaching in the Bible class.
Be praying for this P7 class as they are in their last year of primary school. School fees are often a struggle for families here, so be praying that the Lord continues to provide their needs to stay in school. Pray as we are going through the Bible with them. Pray not only that they are learning and retaining all the information that we are teaching them, but more importantly, that their love for God and His Word grows deeper and deeper.
We are so thankful for the people and ministry opportunities that God is bringing into our lives. Even this small class that we get to spend a small portion of the mornings with is such a blessing to us. As we are allowed to minister to them and teach them, God is using this class to encourage us and bless us.
Serving the Lord is always a blessing. Even through the struggles and heartbreaks that we have gone through on the mission field, the love, blessings, and faithfulness of God abound much more. Through this chance of teaching Bible to a group of primary students, I see how God uses small things to impact eternity and I am so encouraged and excited by the work God is doing here in Entebbe, Uganda.
Blessings,
Byron
