Hey everyone,
I just wanted to give a quick ministry update on here to let you know what the Lord is doing in Ternopil. Here are few things Emily and I have been involved in over the last few weeks.
Orphan Ministry:
As you may know, orphan ministry has been on our hearts for a while now. Since we've been in Ukraine, we have been praying about how the Lord might use us to reach out to these kids in need. With our lack of language skills and not completely understanding how the orphan system works here, we haven't been able to pursue this ministry opportunity as quickly as we hoped. But this week the Lord opened a few doors for us! Because of some connections with people in our church, Emily and I were able to visit two different orphanages this past week.
This first one we visited was a shelter for girls with mental disabilities. This shelter houses girls with a wide ranges of disabilities, including schizophrenia, depression, down syndrome, and selective mutism. It was such a blessing to be able to simply talk to these girls and let them know that they are loved.
The second shelter we visited was a temporary housing shelter for children who had just recently been left by their parents. The kids at this shelter spend a maximum time of three months before they are either adopted or moved to a more permanent orphanage. The kid's ages range from toddler through middle school.
We really feeling the Lord calling us to this type of ministry and we're hoping that we continue to meet with these kids on a weekly basis.
Youth Ministry:
We're in the slow season right now for youth ministry as a lot of the students leave over the holidays. However, the last few months have been great as we have established both a mid-week student Bible study and a weekend youth fellowship group. We've really enjoyed building relationships with these students. We're praying for open doors for reaching out to more students at the start of next semester in January.
We have a small core group of Christian students that we have been pouring into. We have students from Ghana, Nigeria, and a number of cities in Ukraine. Most likely these students will leave Ternopil once they graduate. Our prayer is to equip them with the Word before they graduate and head back home so that they can spread the Gospel in their own cities.
Calvary Chapel Ternopil:
We really love our new church family and it is such a blessing to be a part of CC Ternopil. We're happy to be regularly serving with equipment setup, hospitality, cleaning, children's ministry, graphic design and any other needs that may arise.
Pray for the church as we are seeking a possible purchase of property and a building. Pray for wisdom for Pastor George as he seeks the Lord's movement.
Holiday Ministry:
Ukraine takes their holidays seriously. They have New Years Eve (Dec 31), Christmas (Jan 7), Old New Years (Jan 14) and those with a Catholic background celebrate Christmas on December 25. Our church and youth group is planning on a number of celebrations and parties over this time. Please pray that the Lord uses these events to reach the lost and encourage the saved.
Thank you for all your prayers!
Blessings,
Byron
